In the 1840s, a Bavarian princess claimed to have swallowed a grand glass piano. I wrote about it in a flash fiction piece in issue 55 of The Collagist. The entire issue is amazing– read it now!
It’s MITT ROMNEY– THE MUSICAL!
Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, composer and musician, wrote a magnificent, eight-minute musical piece using the text of my flash fiction story, “Two Weeks After Election Night, Mitt Romney Takes in Disneyland with his Grandkids.” You can hear the piece performed live with french horn, cello, piano, trumpet, clarinet, and soprano vocal here.
What if we could hear the stories of the cases of asylum patients (photographed later by Jon Crispin, here) as they were packed, taken, stored away for years and years— and yearned for? My story, “Cases: Willard Asylum for the Insane: New York, 1910-1960,” tries to listen.
The new edition of Fiction Southeast looks beautiful, and I’m so proud to have my story “Dreamland: Coney Island, 1904” appearing in the issue.
Got my contributor’s copy of CARVE today, and wow, is this a nice journal. If you didn’t already know, CARVE publishes content online, but also does a Premium Edition in print with extra content, like interviews , special features, and “Poefictiontry.” I’m proud to have new flash nonfiction in this glossy, gorgeous, inventive journal.
